Hooded

Friday 7 March 2008

Now that I’ve paid off the guy whose SUV I hit, I can deal with my own damages.

The last time I had to replace my hood, (someone decided it was a good place to fight/dance/fuck/something), it cost about $800.00. This time, since I’m not going through the insurance/deductible end, I did some shopping around and found a guy who will replace my hood for a mere $400.00.

Unfortunately for me and my poor crumpled car, he can’t do it for another two weeks, during which I will be on tour and my car will be living in a driveway in Vancouver for the duration of the tour. I plan to visit a couple more shops and see if anyone can match this guy’s price, but I think I’ve pretty much resigned myself to driving an eyesore for another month.

Worthy News

Wednesday 5 March 2008

Last weekend I got into a car accident.

This is after 16 years of safe driving and the title “Road Star” given to me by the insurance company.

It happened pretty fast. I was going into the left hand lane on a one way street. There was a brand new SUV type thing up ahead that was also going to turn left. I checked my mirror for a second, maybe two, and then the SUV was no longer moving, but stopped in front of me.

I wasn’t going very fast, and since I drive a little car, I ended up basically going under the SUV’s rear bumper.

Pretty embarassing.

I quickly got out to check the other driver. She was very very pregnant. And also shaken but completely fine. That didn’t stop the stink-eye I got from onlookers for hitting a pregnant lady.

The top of my hood was munched pretty good, but I couldn’t see a scratch on her SUV. We exchanged information and went on our way. What a great way to start your day!

Since then, I’ve talked with her husband and paid him cash for the repairs to his SUV… some scratches on the plastic cover of his bumper. His wife is totally fine and they’re being pretty cool about the whole thing. My neck was a little messed up for the last week, but I’m feeling better. Now I just have to get my poor little car fixed.
